The body tends to hold onto a plethora of emotions, which can mentally and even physically affect one’s body. Symptoms may be fatigue, depression, anxiety, soreness and many more. Certain experiences in our lives can often hold us back from our true potential. Trauma-informed yoga helps us to understand what is happening within our bodies, how to listen to that communication, and how to find a way to release that control over ourselves. By learning to direct our attention within, we can help calm the mind, destress the body and reduce symptoms of various trauma.
Types of trauma that can benefit:
In a trauma-sensitive session, invitational language and options are always provided. The practice increases body awareness (introspection) in a safe and controlled way which can promote feelings of physical, emotional, and psychological safety. This addresses nervous system dysregulation, dissociation, and feelings of disconnection from the body or surroundings, which are common after experiencing trauma. By bringing ourselves back into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest + digest) we are releasing constrictions and limitations, promoting ourselves to heal and have a place to come back to whenever we need.
Sessions can be built from scratch or work closely with your referring provider's plan.
You do not need to be diagnosed with any sort of trauma to participate in Trauma-Informed Yoga. This gentle practice is for everyone.
